We are currently hiring for:
Part Time Dog Walker
This position requires the following skills sets:
Understanding of dog behavior and canine communication so as
to safely interact with client dogs and to manage client
dogs while walking in their home neighborhoods. Including
but not limited to: safely entering and departing from
client homes without the dog escaping, handling a dog that
might be uncomfortable with a person entering their home,
ability to react appropriately if an aggressive dog is
encountered while walking and ability to manage a client dog
effectively while walking on a leash.
Ability to communicate verbally and in written format with
clients and Great Dog management to for the following
tasks: writing reports in the form of daily adventure
notes left at each home reporting the outcome of each walk,
completing forms documenting dog walking activities for
Susan and interacting with clients if they are home.
Ability to maintain a set schedule of appointment. Walks
are scheduled in 15, 30 and 60 min. with minimal drive-time
between clients. You must be able to provide your own
reliable transportation to and from dog walking clients.
Ability to provide fun walks at a fitness level appropriate
for each dog. Walks are in the dogs, neighborhood. Goals
vary for each dog-some need a potty outing while others are
looking for exercise as the primary goal. Walking terrain in
each neighborhood varies from flat to extensive hills. You
must be able to handle a wide variety of locations.
Ability to work in all weather conditions. Dog walkers
are expected to walk in rain, cold, heat and everything else
that Seattle has to offer. Walks are only canceled if roads
are extremely icy and safety is an issue.
No
prior criminal record. Trustworthiness is essential.
This position requires you to access our clients homes with
keys. You will have access to their homes and animals. Your
ability to be considered absolutely of no risk to their
property, possessions or pets is essential. A background
check may be required. You also must have a good
driving record.
We are recruiting for the following volunteer positions:
This will afford those that are interested in changing
careers or want to gain experience professionally handling
dogs an opportunity to be a part of the Great Dog team.
These positions are unpaid but as positions become available
at Great Dog, we will look to recruit from within our
volunteer ranks.
Volunteers will adhere to all Great Dog
policies (including a pre-“volunteer” drug test)and will be
trained along side our paid staff. They will also enjoy a
store discount and all the wags and sloppy, wet kisses the
dogs are always willing to give.
Volunteer positions:
Frisbee Flyer – This volunteer position
is an enrichment activity. Client dogs will have an
opportunity to play either Frisbee or Fetch for 10-15
minutes. This volunteer position is Fridays from 5-7pm
Overnight & Grooming Dog Walker – this
position will take our client dogs staying with us for 10
minute to half hour neighborhood walks. We are looking for
a commitment of 2-3 hours each day. Ideally, we are looking
for someone willing to walk Monday, Wednesday and Fridays
and another volunteer to walk Tuesday, Thursdays and
Saturdays. Overnight/Grooming Dog Walkers should be
available mid – day, between 12-3pm.
Puppy Socializer & Yappy Hour
Attendant- What a fun job! Available on Saturdays to join
our Puppy Playtimes, we are looking for individuals to
assist in our puppy social hour. Puppies need a lot of
social interaction between other dogs and different people.
This position rotates and we are looking for a commitment of
twice a month on a rotating basis. The time commitment is
every Saturday 3-6pm
Class Assistants – Great Dog has a
great curriculum of classes. In each class, we like to have
an assistant to do everything from setting up the class, to
demonstrating activities to eventually teaching components!
It is an excellent way to learn a bit about dog training,
visit with all kinds of dogs and really get a feel for the
dog training world. Classes are taught by a lead instructor
and developed by certified pet dog trainer and Great Dog
co-owner, Judi Anderson-Wright. Classes are held once a
week Monday – Sunday. Assistants must be available for the
entire class session (usually 6 weeks). Monday – Thursdays,
7:15-8;15, all day on Saturdays and Sundays.
All volunteers are expected to
participate in the cleaning and sanitizing protocols for all
the positions. We take cleaning seriously at Great Dog as
it is a basic element of providing a safe environment for
the dogs in our care.
